The company is the oldest continually-operated corporation in the state of Texas.
Belo integrated its media properties to be able to use the device, but it never took off.

Belo Corp., publisher of The Dallas Morning News and The Providence (R.I.) Journal, said Friday that its second-quarter profit fell 8 percent, hurt by lower television revenue that offset slightly higher newspaper advertising sales.
Belo blamed the revenue shortfall on the absence of significant political revenue at its television stations.
Belo has been fighting to recover from a circulation overstatement scandal at its flagship Dallas Morning News newspaper, and the company has spent millions compensating advertisers who overpaid for ad space.

Belo jumped into the ranks of the nation's largest media companies when it bought the Journal Company and its nine television stations in 1997, but it also set the stage for an anticipated showdown.

Belo announced on Aug. 5 that its average circulation for the six months ended in September 2003 was overstated by 5 percent on Sundays and 1.5 percent for the rest of the week.
Belo said yesterday that, combined with other declines in circulation, The Morning News would report an overall drop of 11.5 percent on Sundays and 5 percent in daily circulation for the six-month period ending Sept. 30, compared with a year earlier.

Belo Corp. is expecting a decline of 3 percent or less in daily circulation at its flagship newspaper the Dallas Morning News, where the company is also revamping circulation procedures after overstatement violations.
Belo CEO Robert Decherd told an investor conference that resolving the circulation issues at the Dallas paper was the Dallas-based company's "highest priority." He said the company was putting in place "fundamental, systemwide changes" in its circulation practices.
Shares of Belo rose 39 cents, or 1.6 percent, to close at $24.65 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange.

Corporate television owners are apparently trying to determine if there's going to be anyone doing business in New Orleans in the near future who will buy television advertising.
If not, without advertising revenue the corporations will have to foot the entire cost of operating a television station in the devastated market - a tremendous expense that could pull down revenues from their other markets, a cost that most owners are probably going to be unwilling to bear.
