Belobog, Belbog, Bialbog, Byelobog, Bielobog, Belun, Bylun, (all names meaning White God) is a reconstructed Slavic deity of light and Sun, the counterpart of dark and cursed Czernobog (Black God).
However, the name of Belobog is not mentioned by Helmold anyhere in his Chronica, nor is it ever mentioned in any of the historic sources that describe the pagan gods of any Slavic tribe or nation.
Another clue for existence of Belobog is a number of toponyms in Slavic countries which have that name.

Belobog, Belbog, Bialbog, Byelobog, Bielobog, Belun, Bylun (all names meaning: White God) is a hypothetical Slavic deity of light and Sun, the counterpart of dark and cursed Crnobog (Black God).
On the basis of this inscription, many modern mythographers assumed that, if the evil god was Crnobog, the Black God, then the good god should be Belobog or the White God.
First of all, the name of Belobog is not mentioned by Helmold anyhere in his Chronica, nor is it ever mentioned in any of the historic sources that describe the pagan gods of any Slavic tribe or nation.

Since the name Radegast can be easily etimologised as meaning "Dear guest", this led to the construction of Radegast as the supposed Slavic god of hospitality.
Likewise, to pair up with a god with the sinister sounding name of Chernobog (Black god) mentioned by Helmod, the White god, or Belobog, was invented.
That name is not found in any reliable historic or ethnographic record; rather, it was simply assumed that, since there already was a Black god, there simply had to be a White god as well.

In this context Kol does not mean a stick (there is such a meaning of this word in Russian language) but a solar turn-around, equinox.
Russian mythology teaches that on this very day the fight between the God of Light, Belobog, and the God of Darkness, Chernobog, turns around.
Each equinox has a celebration associated with it: the winter equinox is celebrated on Koliada's Day, and the summer on Kupala's Day.

Are the Slavic Gods Forgotten?: Ancient Eastern European Deities Live On
In Neil Gaimon's fictional tale American God's - about the development and human need for myth - Czernobog, or the Slavic god of darkness, is depicted as a gruff and stubborn old Eastern European immigrant who lives on his memories of cattle slaughter (likened to animal sacrifice).
There is little evidence to support the worship of Belobog, Czernobog's opposite, but the trend of dualism in Slavic mythology has encouraged some scholars to take the worship of Belobog for granted.
The gods of the Slavic pantheon will remain a mystery, but the legacy their followers left to Eastern Europeans today is indicative of their past importance.
