Beloit townsite was homesteaded by Aaron A. Bell who came from Williamson County, Illinois by an ox-drawn covered wagon, arriving in April 1866.
Beloit's first regularly appointed teacher was W.A. Reeder, later a congressman, who taught in the fall and winter of 1872-3.
Beloit was surveyed by Alver Cooper and the plat filed with the Register of Deeds on March 26, 1872 for T.F. Hersey, A.A. Bell, George Campbell, Alexander Campbell, Charles H. Morrill, Edward Valentine, William C. Ingram and Daniel Keplar.

 Recent Legal Cases Affecting Towns (Including the 2003 Wood Decision)
The town planning and zoning committee recommended the rezoning be approved by the town board conditioned upon provision that if the necessary federal and state agency approval and permits and favorable groundwater test results were not obtained within eighteen months the zoning would revert back to Agricultural District.
Town granted the property owners a conditional use permit for one year for one year in 1995 (subsequently extended until August 31, 1998) to live in an outbuilding while the principal residence was being built.
Town also authorized the expenditure of over $600,000 in town tax revenues for the development and construction of waste and sewerage piping with the intent that it serve both this parcel and over 1500 additional acres of land in the town.

At this point, the biggest concern for this town, we believe, is that of a backlash—that is, because the town has handled problems better than other communities, people may come to believe that there are no problems at all.
As former Beloit Police Chief Terry Fell testifies, when Wisconsin’s low drinking age was still in effect, it inadvertently created an unruly bar district that turned the 600 block of Fourth Street into “a zoo.” When the allure of underage drinking was removed, many of the problems naturally disappeared, he claims.
That said, Beloit seems to be battling the problems associated with violent activity better than many towns that are wealthier, and that have a less volatile racial mix.

BELOIT TOWNSHIP-The Beloit Town Board got its first look Monday night at a planning study for a proposed new fire station, police station and administration building.
The town's current facilities were built between 1955 and 1969 and are outdated, town officials said.
Town Administrator Bob Museus cited a study five years ago that found it would cost $850,000 to update the current town administration building on Afton Road, adding that the updated building still would not meet the town's space requirements.
