The term "Belt" is derived from the word belt, referring to a band of clothing worn about the waist, and applied metaphorically to contiguous geographic regions; it is unrelated to the geologic or astronomical use of the term.
The precise boundaries of these perceived regions vary greatly within the population, and from region to region.

Spanish follows English as the second-most spoken language in the United States, primarily due to the influence of recent Latin American immigrants and the fact that almost a fifth of its continental territory was originally part of Mexico, and it is a primary spoken language in some areas of the Southwest.

In the Kochkor region of the WTR, the range- bounding reverse fault has propagated 6-10 km into the basin from the range front, forming a 30 km long salient north of the range.
This salient corresponds with a saddle in uplift of the WTR that is defined by the uplifted pre-orogenic erosion surface.
Thus, we speculate that the variation in uplift along strike of the WTR and the coincidence of the salient with the low elevation portion of the range is due to lateral change in dip of the thrust fault(s) and/or crustal ramp(s).
