Beltrami worked with Craven on the two subsequent sequels and is scoring the director's upcoming film Cursed.
While by no means confined to writing music for genre films, Beltrami seems to have found his niche and surprisingly enough is excited about writing music to films that scare and excite the average cineplex denizen.
The director, Jonathan [Mostow] liked it and wanted to meet me. We met, he mentioned that since it was a high profile movie a lot of composers were up for it, but that he was gonna push for me. Over the course of the next month he kept his word and made it happen.

Marco BELTRAMI The Crow: Salvation: Film Music CD Reviews-June 2000   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
Beltrami, like Elliot Goldenthal, does attention-getting deeds for these types of projects, including metallic clanking, stinger chords, snarling brass, wordless soprano airs, driving rhythms, and other dark traditions where a smattering of melody may serve as the kindest reprieve.
Beltrami, unlike Goldenthal, is not too innovative about these effects, and so much of "The Crow: Salvation" appears to be temp-track offspring.
Beltrami is praiseworthy in that he brings to these casual references a feel of his own.

Focuses especially on Beltrami's contributions to geographic knowledge of the Mississippi region; the flora, fauna and inhabitants; the placenames given; and the general history of exploration and controversy over the "true source." Pennesi makes a case for Beltrami's claim to the discovery, highlighting the vindication of the Minnesota government in its naming of the county.
Beltrami (here given as "Julius Caesar Beltrami") and his Le Mexique are mentioned copiously in the preface which presumably tells the story of Beltrami's discovery of the codice in Mexico and its subsequent journey to Italy (along with much other introductory matter).

 Filmtracks: Hellboy (Marco Beltrami)
Beltrami has, for the past decade, seemed content dwelling in the foggy musical depths of pop culture horror flicks, with the Scream trilogy serving as starting point for finding other Beltrami works such as Mimic, Resident Evil, Joy Ride, and a dozen other nearly nameless scores.
Beltrami also dances into the bizarre end of the spectrum with a wailing theremin in several cues, going so far as to combine it at very low ranges with a jazzy female vocal in the final cue.
That last cue, incidentally, is where Beltrami takes a page from early Danny Elfman in sheer craziness of rhythm and instrumentation, perhaps leaving the listener with the false impression that the score he/she just heard was a wacky and deranged piece of music.

Hellboy - Marco Beltrami   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
I can't say that having Marco Beltrami's name on an album cover is something that excites me greatly, but the buzz surrounding Hellboy has been good and it proves to be true.
Beltrami seems ideal for the murkier world of Hellboy given his long horror score credit list, but the alternation between skittish mumbles and orchestral crashes is displaced with a mixture of broader heroics, a little churning building and some surprisingly moving interludes.
It doesn't quite have the litheness of a darkened Elfman hero anthem, but is memorable enough and worked in successfully throughout the rest of the score, but without overkill.

 Dracula 2000 by Marco Beltrami
While the remainder of the score doesn't quite live up to the intrigue of the first two tracks, one thing Beltrami does do even within the darkest moments of the score is infuse a bit of a techno.
Musically, Dracula 2000 stays true to the horror genre with its foreboding combination of tolling bells, deep to blaring brass, rumbling percussions, and shrieking strings; however, giving this score some ironic signs of life is the inclusion of ethnic and contemporary elements.
The main theme Beltrami devises for the film is this scores strength and gives fans who aren't prone to listening to this genre of film music a bit to listen to and enjoy.

 Beltrami: I, Robot
Beltrami is certainly turning out music not too far removed from what Jerry Goldsmith wrote on this type of film over countless years, especially with the odd meters and propulsive rhythmic base; cues like "Tunnel Chase", "Need Some Nanites" and "Spiderbots" are highly impressive.
Beltrami reminds us (who didn't need reminding) and, just perhaps, producers and directors (who did) that it's entirely possible to come up with thrilling action music without resorting to wheeling out the latest synth gadgetry.
There are one or two tracks in which nothing much happens, and these certainly detract from the quality of some of the others, and perhaps Beltrami wasn't able to experiment as much with his orchestrations as he would have done had he been able.

 Beltrami: Hellboy
However, Beltrami's own voice is clearly heard through the music as well: this is no simple rip-off.
Action music is surprisingly thin on the ground, at least until the score nears its climax - instead, Beltrami generally favours quite slow, portentous commentary instead - but when it comes, it's worth the wait.
Quite notable is how well-produced the album is - neither too long nor too short (a rare compliment for a soundtrack album of this era), it flows very well, never concentrating too much similar music together, and seemingly flowing from one place to another one (an even rarer compliment for a summer blockbuster score).
