She complements the Max Aitken on the Bembridge station, where we have a variety of sea and coastal conditions to cope with.
The ILB was launched at 11:07am on Sunday 12th of October in severe weather conditions to a sailing yacht in difficulty and dragging its anchor outside the Bembridge Harbour.

The RNLI station is particularly important, as extending into the sea to the east of the village lies the notorious "Bembridge ledge", a large rocky outcrop which poses a major threat to passing boats.

The area, containing Yaverland and Bembridge, was for much of its history an island, cut off from the Wight mainland by an encircling arm of sea at high tide and a muddy gulf at low tide.
Even in 1665, there were still only three routes into Bembridge Isle, so poignantly emphasized in a petition from the inhabitants of Yaverland, requesting that Lady Richards not be allowed home to Yaverland Manor, since they feared she had become contaminated with the plague in Newport.
Wolverton was a settlement in the area of Centurion's Copse; Middleton refers to a farmstead in the middle of the peninsula, therefore Bembridge farm; and La Wode refers to a settlement in the north part, probably near Bembridge Point or near the village pub.

Bembridge One Designs and National Squibs both had their courses shortened due to falling wind.
