Thing (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Thing (Benjamin Jacob "Ben" Grimm) is a fictional character from the Marvel Universe, a founding member of the superhero team the Fantastic Four under the guise of the superstrong Thing.
Pilot Ben Grimm accompanied by long-time friend and scientist Reed Richards, Richards' future wife Susan Storm, and her brother Johnny Storm took an experimental ride into the upper atmosphere of Earth where they were unluckily pelted by a cosmic ray storm.
Ben's gruff mannerism and his tendency to do the major physical labor of Reed Richard's projects hide the fact that he is actually an intelligent and well educated man. As he was once a member of street gang, the Thing is an excellent street fighter and also has experience with wrestling.

Grimm's internal conflict was best dramatized (or at least, melo-dramatized) in Fantastic Four #51, at left.
The conflict was not merely between two different artistic interpretations, but between a man still reeling from his transformation and highly suspicious of others, and one who had grown a little more accepting of his orange skin.
