Ben Hall was born in Breeza, NSW in 1837.
Hall's men were well led, well armed and their stolen race horses easily outraced the poorer police horses.
Betrayed by an informer, Hall was ambushed on 5 May 1865 and shot by police near Goobang Creek on the Lachlan Plain.

Ben Hall is widely regarded as "the noblest of the bushrangers." This song tells the common story that he was hounded from his home by the police, and only then turned to crime.
Hall was the child of convicts, but showed no signs of banditry until his wife ran off with another man. From there his life took a turn for the worse; he sold off his land and eventually joined Frank Gardiner's outlaw band (see "Frank Gardiner").
Eventually Hall was ambushed and killed; thirty bullets were found in his body, which made him a hero to the locals who hated the police.

Ben and his family then moved to Newark Delaware, where he began to take trombone playing seriously by studying with Phil Taylor.
Ben continued his education by studying improvisation with Robert "Boysie Lowery" (teacher of Clifford Brown and Ernie Watts), by attending Temple University (studying under Fred Scott), and by seeking out advice and help from professional trombonists (such as Jiggs Whigham, Bill Reichenbach, Bruce Fowler and Doug Elliot).
Currently, Ben and his family live in the Washington D.C. area where he is teaching, working as a freelance trombonist, and completing various recording projects as trombonist and composer/arranger for the WAMA (Washington Area Music Awards) award winning artists including Lilo Gonzalez y los de Mt Pleasant and other DC artists.

I have also read the biography on Ben Hall and the series is fairly true to what is known about Ben.
The story follows Ben, a small time horse farmer, down the path he took as bushranger.
It is shown from both sides points of view and although most will remain feeling sorry for Ben there are many occasions when you also feel sorry for the police.
