Ben Konop was the Democratic candidate in Ohio's Fourth Congressional District for the United States House of Representatives in 2004, and received the highest percentage vote total of any House challenger in congressional races in Ohio that year: 41 percent.
Presently, Ben Konop is serving as a professor at The University of Toledo College of Law and has been elected Lucas County Commissioner.
Ben Konop received 47 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary.

Another important initiative to Konop is his proposal to have the county sell land that it currently owns and then use the proceeds to subsidize small business loans through the economic development fund of the county; which he says would help small businesses create jobs and get their businesses off the ground.
Konop explained that the jobs created under his plan are not likely to be outsourced, because they are not the traditional jobs that the United States seeks to move to foreign soil.
Konop garnered 41 percent of the vote in that race, the highest total for any challenger in an Ohio contest for the House of Representatives.

Now that Ben is in the running for Commissioner, I think that the public should be aware if Ben Konop is contributing responsibly to the coffers that provide the functions that protect and serve the city from within Ben dwells, as well as the county.
Ben Konop, as a candidate, should assume responsibility for his campaign workers and assume responsibility for the geographical placement of his political signs.
If Ben Konop did not approve the geographical locations that are in violation of the law, or if he did not have foreknowledge of said placements, then Ben Konop should make sure those signs are removed as soon as such illegal placements come to his attention.

What's encouraging for Konop, being a candidate challenging a longtime incumbent, is that a June survey taken by his campaign showed Oxley only having a 44 percent approval rating in the district, and only 42 percent said Oxley deserves to be re-elected.
Konop said while supporters may initially be drawn to his campaign because of their dislike for Oxley, who they feel has abandoned them, "when they hear our message, these people are coming on board for what we stand for.''

Mike Oxley, one of the most ethically compromised Republicans in Congress (and there's a lot of competition), is retiring.
Bush got 65 percent in this district in 2004, but underfunded political rookie Ben Konop outperformed Kerry, making it a 59-41 race against the powerful, long-entrenched Oxley after being outspent $2 million to $178,000.
Konop hasn't indicated his plans for 2006, and by all rights it's an extremely difficult seat for Dems to take.

The Daily Kos, THE lefty political blog, has a short write up on Ben Konop's chances to win the US House races in Findlay.
I still find it hard to believe that he has a chance, but apparently Mike Oxley's shabby ethics, utter lack of concern for his constituents, and general lack of accountability have opened up a very small hole for Ben.
Oxley is the biggest slime-ball, barring Tom DeLay, in the House, so it would be nice to see him sweat.
