It is one of the country's southern provinces, being situated in the delta of the Mekong river.
Geographically, Ben Tre is wedged between the two main branches of the Tien Giang river, which is itself one of the two main branches of the Mekong.

RAD 111 was again attacked on the Ben Tre River on the 16th; at 1053 from the east bank 6 miles southeast of Ben Tre, and at 1127 from both banks 2 miles east of Ben Tre.
On the next day, 17 September, RAD 111 was fired upon for the fifth time on the Ben Tre River, this time from the south bank one mile east of Ben Tre.
