Ben Tre (in (A native or inhabitant of Vietnam) Vietnamese, Bến Tre) is a (The proper sphere or extent of your activities) Province of (A communist state in Indochina on the South China Sea; achieved independence from France in 1945) Vietnam.
The entire province is criss-crossed with a network of smaller rivers and (Long and narrow strip of water made for boats or for irrigation) canals.
The extensive irrigation that this provides makes Ben Tre a major producer of (Grains used as food either unpolished or more often polished) rice, but also means that the area is prone to (The rising of a body of water and its overflowing onto normally dry land) flooding.

While the province used to be separated from HCM City and other provinces by the Tien Giang, Ba Lai, Ham Luong and Co Chien rivers, today there is much infrastructure and ongoing projects that are linking these provinces together.
With 35,361ha of coconut trees, Ben Tre exported 7,000 tonnes of dry coconut, more than 9,000 tonnes of coconut coal, 57,600 tonnes of coconut fibre and 55 million coconuts in 2003.
The province provides its investors priority for site clearance; support for land rent, reduction of income tax during the first four years of operation and training support for workers.

BEN TRE—I had been in and out of the Mekong Delta cities of My Tho and Ben Tre several times during the Vietnam War.
I'm now returning to see how Ben Tre and the surrounding province are doing 30 years after the end of the war.
After my departure from Ben Tre Province, the Vietnamese authorities report that bird flu has caused the death of one person in the province, but not in the district we were in.

The Vietnam Economy website reports that the Ben Tre province on the Mekong River delta is now exporting coconuts to 42 countries around the world.

The Tien River has six distributaries which enter the sea along the coast of Ben Tre Province, in the northeastern part of the delta.

Nguyen Huu Sinh, director of Ben Tre provincial Preventive Medicine Center, said the man fell ill July 25, a week after he butchered and ate two dead chickens given to him by his mother and a neighbour.
Last week, Vietnam began vaccinating millions of chickens and ducks in two provinces to try to slow the spread of the virus.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, there were six new bird flu areas detected at six communes, five districts and My Tho city in Tien Giang and Ben Tre provinces.
Also on Wednesday, in southern Ben Tre province bird flu was detected in 360 ducks in Hoa Loc and Phuoc Hanh communes and all the ducks were killed.

"Seven hundred chickens on a farm in An Khanh commune in Ben Tre province were culled last Saturday after 6,000 of them had died within four days," said Mai Van Hiep, director of the province's veterinary department.
