Although the number of transferred patients from Benguet General Hospital to the National Baguio General Hospital increased from 84 in 2000 to 218 in 2002, this is due to an increase in the number of cases in which essentially high-level laboratory tests were needed.
The staff at Benguet General Hospital has increased from 163 in 1999 to 296 at present, but it is still less than the 2003 goal of 323, (which is also the standard according to the regulation set by the Department of Health).
Training for the staff at Benguet General Hospital, the regional hospitals, and rural health units were conducted continuously, and these contributed to improvement of the level of knowledge and skills in the entire province.

LEPANTO Consolidated Mining Co. said it would resume commercial operations of its copper-gold concentrate project in Benguet in December after the Board of Investments (BOI) granted its request for an income tax holiday.
Lepanto said it was advised by the BOI that it may initially avail of a four-year tax holiday, which may be extended for three more years subject to compliance with certain standards.
Lepanto halted its copper mining operations in Benguet in 1997 due to falling copper prices.

BENGUET Corp. said several foreign mining firms, including Sumitomo Corp. of Japan, have expressed interest in investing in the company's nickel and copper mining ventures on the islands of Luzon and Mindanao.
Benguet, also in a disclosure to the stock exchange, said it was negotiating with a group comprising Sumitomo and Sojitz (Nisho Iwai) on possible investment in its multibillion-peso nickel mining project in the province of Zambales on the main island of Luzon.
Benguet said its copper mining project on the southern island of Mindanao had also attracted inquiries from several foreign mining firms, including Zijin Co. of China.

— The Benguet provincial board this week questioned the validity of the agreement inked between Bokod Mayor Raymundo Celino and Kayapa Mayor Tony Dupiano transferring the administration of the Naswak Elementary School from Bokod to Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya.
Also agreed upon is that Kayapa should provide building materials to compensate for the costs incurred by Bokod and Benguet in the maintenance of the said school for almost two decades.
