In response to the need for increased attention to safety and security in today's post-9/11 environment, the City of Benicia is pleased to participate in the nationwide efforts to ensure the safety and security on all Benicia Breeze buses, transfer terminals and maintenance facilities.
With the help of MV Public Transportation, Inc and the Benicia Police Department, the City of Benicia is able to successfully introduce Transit Watch to the City of Benicia.
Benicia Breeze Transit Services are administered by the City of Benicia, Finance Department, Transit Services Division and operated under contract by MV Public Transportation, Inc. of Fairfield, California.

Benicia is located on the north side of the Carquinez Strait, directly facing the city of Martinez.
Benicia was founded on May 19, 1847 by Robert Semple, Thomas O. Larkin, and Comandante General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, on land sold to them by General Vallejo, and named for the General's wife, Francisca Benicia Carillo de Vallejo.
Between 1970 and 1995, the population of Benicia grew steadily at a rate of about 1,000 people per year, and the city changed from a poor, blue-collar town of 7,000 to a white-collar bedroom suburb of 28,000.

Benicia Capitol State Historic Park Benicia was the site of California’s third seat of government and served as the state capitol for thirteen months during 1853 and 1854.
Benicia Historical Museum at the Camel Barns (or, The Camel Barn Museum) stems from Benicia's unusual contribution to U.S. Military history in the 1850's and 1860's.
Benicia Fire Museum The museum houses many treasures of fire service equipment and hundreds of related items, including the "Phoenix," an 1820's double decker hand-pumper requiring 45 men to operate--one of the first fire engines to arrive in California in 1847.

 Benicia II
The second Benicia (PG-96) was laid down on 14 April 1969 at Tacoma, Wash., by the Tacoma Boatbuilding Co. after a fire in August 1968 destroyed the incomplete hull laid down on 3 January 1967; launched on 20 December 1969; sponsored by Mrs.
Benicia was decommissioned on 15 October 1971, and she was transferred to the South Korean Navy that same day.
Benicia's name was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 30 August 1996, and she was scrapped in Korea in 1998.

In 1847 a 252-acre parcel of land adjoining the Benicia city limits on the east was acquired for a military reserve.
The grounds of the Benicia Arsenal are famous for stabling the Army's one and only Camel Corps--an idea dreamt up in 1855 by Secretary of War Jefferson Davis (later Confederate President).
The Benicia Arsenal was a staging area during the Civil War for Union troops from the West, and the installation remained a garrisoned post until 1898 when troops were assigned to duty in the Philippine Islands during the Spanish-American War.
