For over 20 years bicyclists and pedestrians in the City of Benicia had to cross a narrow and dangerous bridge on State Park Road over Interstate 780 to access the scenic Benicia State Recreation Area.
The design team worked closely with the multiple stakeholders including, State Park Officials, California Department of Transportation, the Bicycle Coalition, and residents in the area to prepare a conceptual design that would be functional, safe and aesthetically pleasing to the community.
Once the preliminary design report is approved by Caltrans, Pakpour Consulting Group will prepare the final plans, specifications and cost estimate for a 16-foot wide bicycle and pedestrian bridge and a 12-foot wide bicycle path adjacent to the existing edge of pavement, and a concrete barrier which separates the bicycle path from the traffic lane.
