Benjamin Meek Miller was born March 13, 1864, in Oak Hill in Wilcox County, Alabama, where his father, Rev. John Miller, was pastor of the Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
Miller considered reducing the state debt to be his primary concern and devoted most of his attention to this duty at the expense of thousands of out-of-work Alabamians.
Miller later attended law school at the University of Alabama, graduated in 1889 and established a law practice in Camden with his brother, Joseph Neely Miller.

Accordingly, this hospital was a very important learning center for Benjamin Rush, M.D. In the winter of 1765-66, Benjamin Rush was one of thirteen medical students that walked the ward of the Pennsylvania Hospital, and eventually, in 1783, Rush became Senior Staff Physician at the hospital.
Furthermore, Benjamin Rush was a well-known lecturer in the Philadelphia area, and a number of his oral instructions and addresses at the University of Pennsylvania were published, first as Six Introductory Lectures, and later as Sixteen Introductory Lectures.

For decades, Benjamin Hicks was called the "Father of Nassau County." There are the respected but rarely remembered early supervisors Philip Christ, Smith Cox and William Jones, and others who whose name would bring dignity and historical insight to a county building.
But if we're going to name Nassau's first county facility after someone, maybe it should be named for someone who actually had something to do with establishing the county, or with its early government.
The Colonel will never be forgotten and doesn't need this particular honor.
