John C. Moulton, the treasurer and largest owner of the corporation, is identified with the growth and prosperity of the town in a large measure, having taken a prominent part in nearly all the large enterprises.
Moulton is now living [1888] with her son, John C. at the advanced age of ninety-seven, in the full possession of her faculties.
John Carroll Moulton (7), son of Jonathan Smith and Deboral (Neal) Moulton was born at Centre Harbor NH December 24, 1810.

One of the first towns granted by Governor Benning Wentworth, South Hampton was chartered in 1742 from parts of Amesbury and Salisbury, Massachusetts.
He was a brother-in-law to Governor Benning Wentworth, and served as secretary of the colony until the Revolution.

The Mill was an old landmark and one of great interest, first owned and operated by Benning Moulton, son of Col. Jonathan Moulton, for whom the town was named.
Moulton received the land on the brook leading from Long Pond to Lake Winnipesaukee through a lease.
Moulton in 1793 for 100 pounds to the Senter family, who in 1850 sold to John Coe for $1,000.

A wild bear from the woods was killed for the occasion and the beans were procured from Jotham Tuttle, hence the name Jotham beans.
In 1837 voted that they should not visit the schools; in 1847, that they should visit each school twice a year for one dollar a district, and in 1850 that they should publish their school-report and that the town should pay for it.
PINE TREE RIOT--The Masonian proprietors, in their grants, and Governor Benning Wentworth, in all his charters, had a clause reserving to the king all "White Pine Trees" fit for masting the royal navy.

were at least sixteen Moultons, giving the town its name.
Colonel Jonathan Moulton was considered to be one of the richest men in the province at the start of the American Revolution.
Moultonborough was chartered in 1763 by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth, and at the time was described as being near the "Winnepisseoky Pond." It would be incorporated in 1777.

Granted in 1765 by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth, New Hampton was originally known as "Moultonborough Addition" after then-Colonel Jonathan Moulton, who held the position of town moderator.
Moulton, who was born in Hampton, changed the name to "New Hampton" in 1777 when it was incorporated.
A Free Will Baptist school known as the "New Hampton Institute" existed in the town in the 19th century.

Recently I got lucky and ran into SFC Jenkins from Alpha Co., we later was stationed at Ft. Benning.
As an interesting sidenote they went through basic in D Co., 2/54th on Sand Hill, where I went through basic training, and one of the drills in the book is none other than Charlie Butler, who is the drill sergeant I'll never forget.
One of the most wonderful moments of my life was to stand in front of now 1SG Butler as a drill sergeant myself and thank him.
