Benny Rothman (1 Jun 1911 - 23 Jan 2002) was a UK political activist, most famous for his leading role in the Mass trespass of Kinder Scout in 1932.
The combination of his political activism and interest in the outdoors led to his participation in the mass trespass of 1932, an enterprise that resulted in a spell in jail and further employment difficulties.
Rothman was active in working with Jewish groups in Manchester to oppose the campaigns of Sir Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists.

Benny Rothman is best known for being the leader of the mass trespass of 1932 on Kinder Scout, a mountain that was at the time out of bounds to the public.

WALKERS ARE today mourning the death of Benny Rothman (90), leader of the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass of 1932 and honorary lifetime member of the Ramblers' Association (RA), who died on Wednesday, 23 January.
Benny, a stocky, diminutive figure with a huge heart and a will of iron when it came to the public's rights, was a legendary figure in the history of the freedom to roam campaign.
At that time walkers were banned from almost all the open moorland of the Peak District and the trespass gave a powerful thrust to the campaign that led to the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act of 1949, and even the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.

The most memorable event is caught in the story of Benny Rothman, and his dream to hike where he wanted.
In 1932 he led a mass trespass onto Kinder and Rothman's action became a landmark in the ramblers campaign, but at the time resulted in a fight with the authorities not far from one of the strange gritstone outcrops, appropriately called "The Boxing Gloves Rocks".
This small sample of the artwork that he has created during his walks on Kinder Scout moor has, he says, drawn him into the process, into the narrative, and into his own dreams and experiences about the place.
