Bentley Little - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bentley Little is the author of numerous horror novels.
Bentley Little was born in Arizona in 1960, one month after his mother attended the world premiere of Psycho.
Little has stated on several occasions that he considers himself a horror novelist, and that he writes in the horror genre, not the "suspense" or "dark fantasy" genres.

 Bentley Little: The Mailman ( M.J.E. / Writings / Book Reviews / Horror / ~ )
Little does mention the malaise that sweeps over the entire town of Willis, so the possible criticism about not doing enough about things does not seem entirely justified; I think Little was aware of this, and made it an intrinsic part of the plot.
Little seems to construct his whole story around a very specialized situation - the sinister mailman - and builds up as much as possible on aspects of the mailman's work or attributes.
By the way, Bentley Little's short story "The Mailman" is not related to this novel, beyond the general idea of someone having a pathological phobia of a particular mailman.

THE MYSTERY READER reviews: The Association by Bentley Little   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Bentley Little, with several successful novels and a Bram Stoker award to his credit is a writer I would normally believe was a dependable writer of inventive horror.
From premise to grand finale, Bentley Little seems fixated on endless repetitions of the same plot device.
Little could have done better, even with the shallow plot with which he chose to work.

Silky Terriers in Need - The Bentley Fund
Bentley had a very tough start in life, but he was so lucky to end up with a rescue group that was willing to invest the time, money, and love that he needed.
Bentley had a negative reaction to the Prozac and the dose was reduced, however, after six months, the owners returned to their vet and stated that Bentley had "pooped" in their kitchen without telling them that he needed to go out and they felt that he was just more "trouble than he is worth".
Bentley is in the care of a wonderful small rescue group, and a foster home where his family is experienced in the care of disabled dogs.

Bentley Little's novels are widely available in paperback, and my curiosity got the better of me. I decided to pick up "The Revelation" after discovering that it won the Bram Stoker Award.
Thankfully, Little managed to publish his master's thesis, a little story called "The Revelation." Thirteen years and twelve books later Bentley Little is one of the most recognized names in the horror genre.
Bentley's first novel is a good outline of his career that was to follow, in so far as his writing habits for longer stories are concerned - a good start, gratuitous sex and gore, paper thin characters and a very anti-climatic ending.

 Bentley Little: Murmurous Haunts ( M.J.E. / Writings / Book Reviews / Horror / ~ )
As a little boy Jack has an unpleasant encounter with a circus dwarf who accosts him and demands to be given a quarter (that is, a 25c coin).
It is also possible that Bentley Little's above-mentioned tendency to present strange, inexplicable happenings without even the pretence of an explanation does not fit in very well with my rather literal and logical mind.
I am sure Bentley Little fans will consider it an essential part of their collection, and I don't want to say anything to deter them from that - it is quite possible, even likely, that my outlook is limited by an incompatibility between my way of thinking and the author's way of thinking.

 Wilson Bentley Newsletter
Not to be outdone by Bentley, in 1963 a committee of the citizens of Jericho made a snow crystal montage on a ten-inch diameter dinner plate to commemorate the two-hundredth anniversary of the founding of Jericho.
Bentley’s sister-in-law, Mary, without identifying the woman, said that Bentley was briefly engaged to be married, but the engagement was broken off when the woman realized she would have to compete with the snow crystals for his love and attention.
Bentley must have fussed and fumed over this, as he never worked out of doors with his camera, and he certainly never dressed up when he did his photography.

Not Necessarily a Vacation from Ordinary Horror
Bentley Little is the horror writer whose work most closely approaches the embodiment of what Sigmund Freud described as the uncanny.
Of course, Freud's idea of the uncanny is generally applied by literary critics to analyze ghost stories, since it explores that phenomenon where we see something familiar in a totally new and disturbing way, as if we were encountering it for the first time.
This feeling is an apt tool for understanding Bentley Little's novels, for he writes about much more than what merely scares us or our collective cultural anxieties.
