		Originally located on the main road linking east and west Dorset, now bypassed, Bere Regis sits on gently undulating hills at the boundary between chalk downlands to the north and sandy heathlands to the south.
		The main street is mostly post 1788, Bere Regis being also a victim of one of the fires that plagued Dorset villages sporadically during the 18th century (Blandford 1731, Wareham 1762, etc.)

	BERE REGIS
		Bere Regis is a substantial village surrounded by a circle of market towns within a ten to twelve mile radius, and there was a long previous history of horse drawn carrier operations stretching back over the years.
		Bere Regis celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1979, and the remaining core network of bus routes was to continue largely unchanged until the deregulation of buses in 1986.
		The Bere Regis firm survived as a complete entity until 1994 when most of the operations and the Dorchester base were sold to Dorchester Coachways / West Dorset Coaches - a new firm which was part of the Cawlett group who also controlled Southern National.

		Bere Regis is a village situated in East Dorset at the junction of the A31 and A35.
		It sits in the valley of the Bere Stream that feeds the numerous watercress beds around the village.
		with the suffix Regis coming from the fact that in it's early history the village was part of the Crown Estate and where King John took up residence many times.Bere Regis is famous for it's connection to Hardy's novel 'Tess of the d’Urbervilles', first published in 1891, where it is referred to as 'Kingsbere'.
