But I feel that the quality that Beretta built this gun with is less than average, when compared to my Italian made Beretta 92FS, and I'm frustrated that I can't shoot the standard.22LR's through it without problems.

i have a beretta 92fs brigadier elite in 9mm and it has a plastic guide rod.
Actually, I heard that the reason that M9 has plastic guide rods was because military guys sometime would drop their M9 in locked-back conformation (on empty) by accident, and sometimes the metal rod will bend as a result of the droppage.
Hence, military made the request that rod be drop-proof, and hence the ABS/plastic resilient plastic rod in new M9 and 92FS.

There seem to be more 96FS Brigadier Inox models out there, but occasionally a 92FS Brigadier Inox model shows up on GunBroker or GunsAmerica.
As for the price of a 92FS Brigadier Stainless, $575.00 for the one on GunsAmerica is a good price in my opinion and this gun is the current version that Beretta is or was selling with the fl controls.
So if you want one with all silver controls, you need to now factor that into the price even though that is the way Beretta used to sell them.

I would suggest the gun whose size, mass, physical form, and controls most resemble your DE, but with more civilized recoil - a.22LR or 9mm semiauto with similar size, weight, controls (as similar as is practical anyway, I hear the DE is actually pretty big).
The Beretta 92FS Brigadier is a pretty big, SA/DA action 9mm with a decocker/safety.
All the skills I've learned using the Beretta NEOS Inox DLX with the 7.5" barrel and the scope off the Desert Eagle have transferred to all the other pistols I own, plus the Desert Ealge.
