Beretta 92 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beretta decided to use 5,000 semi finished slides intended for the French to build pistols for the US military contract and soon after the US Armed forces accepted these pistols, a few slides of Beretta 92Fs (less than 10 total) and some older Beretta 92SBs started to crack and fly off.
Beretta remedied the situation by changing the spring's design so that each leg is similar allowing it to be inverted in case one leg fails until a replacement can be fitted.
The Beretta 93R is similar in design and operation to the 92, but it has been modified quite to provide the option of firing in 3-round bursts.

Beretta 92G Elite II Report (long, with lotsa pics) - THR
The hammer on the Elite II is a tad different from the Elite.
Berettas are set up to 'drive the dots', in other words, hold the front sight over the bullseye.
The ELITE II laser engraving came with vertical streaks on it, and the trigger bar wears on the frame, and the slide release wears on the lettering on the slide.

The Elite IA is indeed the Vertec frame.

The Beretta Brigadier carried by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol is a "D" gun (a 96D, to be exact).
Guns designated by a "G" suffix (e.g., 92G Elite) work similar to the F and FS guns, except the decocker does not act as a safety.
The Elite II is the next step forward from the Elite (the Elite has been discontinued).

 Beretta 92
Beretta redesigned the gun with a slide-mounted safety, which when the lever is pressed downward, not only disengages the trigger but also decocks the hammer and trigger.
Beretta submitted the 92S, but although it did well, the USAF wanted a more traditional magazine release like that on the 1911A1, so Beretta redesigned the 92S into the (extremely rare) 92S-1, with a magazine release at thumb level.
Although the Beretta won the USAF trials, politics got involved for various reasons, (mainly that some Americans didn't want Italian guns, 9mm guns, or yet another different gun, depending on whose version of the story you listen to) and the whole project went on the back burner for awhile.

People were amazed at the accuracy of the Beretta, and I could drop the knockdowns 9 out of 10 times at 200 yards.
The US military has been using Beretta for almost twenty years now and still the "Dinosaur Lovers" carp, criticize and whine about their relics of the past.

Thoughts on Beretta 92G-SD? - 1911Forum   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
The Beretta is not a bad pistol, I have a 92FS that I bought when my Department allowed us to carry semi-auto.
I had a Jarvis barrel with a bushing on the end of the barrel put on my Beretta, tightened up the accuracy quite a bit, that bad boy came back with the new barrel and the slide was tight just like a real gun.
If the 92 Berettas appeal to you and feel comfortable, go for it...personally, I found it too chunky and the grip does not fit my hand.

 Competition Testimonials
I shoot Beretta in competitive skeet and have their field guns, as well, but after experiencing service the way its meant to be, I wouldn't dream of buying another brand.
Personal conduct, integrity and the ability to interact with the public are characteristics that Beretta considers as important as being able to 'smoke the clay'.
Beretta USA does offer trap shotguns in both the 682E and DT10 families but these guns are designed specifically for American trap.

The frame is from the IDPA and USPSA popular Elite II, with the heavier Brigadier slide to tame recoil and speed shot-to-shot recovery.
With the Elite II frame, the pistol fits those with smaller hands, offers a bit of a dovetail to allow for a higher grip, and is factory checkered for a better purchase.
Thanks to the Elite II frame's shape and size, the pistol fits users that have small hands or who are wearing gloves.

HEAVY TRIGGER ON BERETTA......ADVICE??? [Archive] - TheFiringLine Forums
IIRC, Todd Green, who's thick with the Beretta folks and working there now -- and therefore presumably has access to the info from the horse's mouth -- is using a Beretta Cougar mainspring in his DA/SA pistol (which happens to be an Elite G); I don't know what that translates to for # weight.
First, Beretta uses a lighter hammer spring in the DAO D pistols, and presumably thinks that whatever weight spring they're putting into the D guns is good enough for reliable ignition.
The Wolff hammer springs designed for the Beretta 92 are quite a bit longer than the 1911 springs and give a nice SA pull but the DA is still too heavy for my taste.

Using a Glock in IDPA? - TheFiringLine Forums
The Sig performed really well I thought but the Beretta was definitely slower out of the holster with it's really long DA pull.
In my observation at local matches, and in reading posted results from regional, state, and national matches, the Glock seems to be the dominant pistol in the SSP division.
I also own a beretta 92G Elite but i would choose the glock over that.

The varient one allows 'cocked and locked', but this can be compromised by the operator's fit to the thumb safety.
Currently the Beretta is my front line pistol and if something happened to it I'm confident I could get it up and running again quickly or worse case replace it with another Beretta with a signifigantly less substantial cash outlay than required to replace a HK USP.
I really like my Beretta and I would really like that HK, unfortunately I don't currently have the resources to afford them both.

I had trouble deciding between a glock and beretta, but eventually decided to go with the beretta based mainly on looks...I liked the two tone.
After shooting both of these guns, I ended up liking the feel of the beretta over that of the glock.
