Today, Berjaya Group is a major Malaysian conglomerate with an annual revenue in excess of RM2.93 billion.
The Berjaya Group was established 1984 when Vincent Tan acquired a major controlling stake in the share capital of Berjaya Kawat Berhad from its founders, BHP Ltd, Australia and National Iron and Steel Mills, Singapore.

In November 1994, the Securities Commission approved a deal between Berjaya Textile and Rimbunan Hijau through which Berjaya Textile became one of the largest timber companies on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange and Rimbunan Hijau got access to the stock market and the new timber concessions that Berjaya was accumulating in several countries.
In July of 1994, Tony C.T. Yeong, the managing director of Berjaya Group Limited in the Solomon Islands, was expelled from the country for allegedly attempting to bribe the Solomon's Minister of Commerce, Employment and Trade (Solomons Star, 1994).

SINGAPORE - Berjaya Hotels and Resorts, based in Kuala Lumpur, is blazing ahead to add another 16 properties in Malaysia and has formed joint ventures in the Philippines and Thailand to speed up its expansion.
Mr Ricky Goh, who leaves Berjaya at the end of August after four years as its executive director, said that apart from the 17 hotels the group owns and manages in Malaysia, the network now includes properties in the UK, Africa and Fiji, yielding 3,070 rooms.
Berjaya, which is affiliated to Best Western, hopes to add 16 properties with 4,000 rooms in Malaysia, but the branding of the new properties has yet to be decided.
