"Berkeley Square" is an Edwardian period TV 10x50 minute miniseries which examines the lives of three young women, all nursery maids for wealthy families in London's Berkeley Square.
"Berkeley Square" is very much a soap opera (circa 1902) as it focuses on women and women's issues with restrained melodrama though it is much more thoughtfully produced than the usual commercial soap.
All in all, "Berkeley Square" is an acceptable TV product which should make for a pleasant watch for women, lovers of soaps, and others into early 20th century English drama.

The movie has an effective parallel story that shows in a different and more dramatic light how off-the-handle Louis is. Louis is in love with Sibella (Joan Greenwood), a girl he has loved since his youth.
Critic Jonathan Rosenbaum, in praising the movie, notes that the characters “are touching and sympathetic to the extent that they're lonely,” which is certainly true.
The movie presents it in such a detached and unreal fashion that Swersey doesn’t seem to have a choice in the matter.

It is a handsome movie that is as tedious as a dripping faucet, offering too little story in too long of a movie.

I feel that when something is good, you should leave it alone, and obviously the producers of this adaption haven't learned that.
I can honestly count on one hand the movies that have ever made me cry, and this is one of them.
Maybe it was because I could relate to the characters on a personal level because of circumstances in my own life, but I thought this film was exceptionally moving.

To give you an idea of the movie, you are almost thirty minutes into the movie before the time travel incident occurs, and that first thirty minutes is loaded with talk.
It's only in the last third of the movie that it really seems to take shape, but my patience has worn a bit thin by that time.
And though the movie does flirt with such themes as how horrible modern life is (in a dizzying montage of contemporary images of violence that make for one of the most energetic moments in the movie), it doesn't romanticize the past; it's obvious that the man finds many aspects of the past equally unpleasant.

Next we watch the Nazi officer Hitler was just seen conversing with (George Sanders) inspecting the rifle and the British passport of the hunter, Alan Thorndike, and speaking almost exclusively in German to an associate and then to a couple of underlings on the phone.

However, I do not see why it is classified as horror/comedy as there is no trace of horror in the whole film.
