Berks County is a county located in the state of Pennsylvania.
Berks County is bordered by the counties of Lancaster (south), Lebanon (west), Schuykill (northwest), Lehigh (northeast), Montgomery (southeast), and Chester (southeast).
In the county, the population is spread out with 24.60% under the age of 18, 8.80% from 18 to 24, 28.90% from 25 to 44, 22.60% from 45 to 64, and 15.00% who are 65 years of age or older.

John Bitler served in the Berks County Militia during the Revolutionary War and was receiving a pension when he died in 1837.
In 1832, son Daniel and wife Elizabeth Clevenstine moved to Franklin County, Ohio, and by 1834 their family of eight was settled in Auglaize County, Ohio, founding St. Johns in Clay Township.
Philip and Anna Margaretha established their home in Heidelberg Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania and raised a large family, many of whom remained in the area.

Berks County’s lack of regional zoning and a solid waste plan may have made it a target for landfill development.
Berks County Commissioner Timothy Reiver said he has researched the volume of trash being brought to the county, and what he has learned is unsettling to him.
Within Berks County or within a mile or two of county borders are six landfills that make up the largest concentration of landfills in a state that is the largest importer of trash in the nation.
