Berlin is psychologically grueling and unremittingly dark (scariest moment: "The Kids," which ends with a very long tape of children screaming in terror), but the savage contrasts of its sound have gotten more impressive with time.
None of this turned me off of the album, as I was determined to see it as a testament of a certain state of mind, which was discussed at length in TRANSFORMER.
And according to the book the recording of this album was a catastrophe, what with Reed's increasing dependence on speed, and his emotional state.

Berlin was restored as the German capital right after the unification of the two German states in 1990 and has about 3.5 million inhabitants.
In East Berlin, however, the S-Bahn became the backbone of the transport system and new extensions were built from Grünau to Königs Wusterhausen (1951), to Strausberg Nord (1956), to Schönefeld Airport (1961), to Ahrensfelde (1976-82) and to Wartenberg (1984/85).
The Greater Berlin area is divided into 3 zones, zone A covers everything within the S-Bahn ring line, zone B the rest of Berlin city, and zone C the surroundings included in the tariff system.

BERLIN will not be on ARK 21 records, the band will start looking at various major labels in the very near future, and it looks like that the new BERLIN studio album should be out before next summer, but things could change if the label wants the band to do some more recording.
It seems that new BERLIN album may be stuck in limbo and left unfinished as Seibold hasn't worked with Terri for a long time (according to the A&R guy as Restless Records), and is very busy getting the new HATE DEPT. album finished, and will be starting a national tour with his band in September.
Berlin fans might have like the kind of music he did with that band, cause it was more poppy sounding and far removed from that 80's metal stuff of The Big F, however I think that John feels that kind of music (the hard rock stuff) is more him.

Transformer and "Walk on the Wild Side" were both major hits in 1972, to the surprise of both Lou Reed and the music industry, and with Reed suddenly a hot commodity, he used his newly won clout to make the most ambitious album of his career, Berlin.
