In the 13th century the papacy was vacant for a year and a half before the election of Innocent IV and for three and a half years before the installation of Gregory X. Since then, 29 conclaves have lasted a month or more.

Any vacancy to be so filled at the next regular annual election shall be filled by the candidate receiving the fourth (4th) highest number of votes, and, if an additional vacancy is to be filled, the candidate receiving the fifth (5th) highest number of votes shall be declared elected thereto.
All recanvassing of votes in case of discrepancy and all election contests shall be governed by the provisions of the Connecticut General Statutes.
No person shall be eligible for election to any town office who is not at the time of his election a resident and elector of said town and any person ceasing to be a resident and/or elector of said town shall cease to hold elective office in the town.

BERLIN (CNN) -- Though they lost a Sunday state vote in Berlin, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's Social Democrats declared a small victory after holding onto their usual share of the electorate.
A year after coming to power, Schroeder and his party have lost six state elections in recent weeks: The Berlin vote is the last such test this year.
That's about the same share the SPD garnered in the last Berlin campaign, and the party was happy just to have come out ahead of the former communist Party of Democratic Socialism, which has made recent gains in other state elections.

The year 2001 saw new international attention to Africa, mainly focused on combating the scourge of diseases related to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and on efforts to counter impoverishment aggravated by the globalization of the world economy.
It was announced that proportional representation in the legislature would be introduced in the 2001 elections, and that the government would fund political parties, based on their performance in municipal polls.
On October 9, 2001, a deal was signed by the Zanzibar authorities and the opposition agreeing on tension-reducing measures including electoral reform, provision of equal access to all parties on state media, and the holding of by-elections for seats that remained vacant after the disputed 2000 elections.

Clements-Wright was held in the Burlington County Jail overnight pending a 3:00 p.m.

Committee members who are not full-time state employees shall be entitled to per diem and expenses as provided in 32 V.S.A. §1010, and members of the General Assembly shall be entitled to per diem and expenses in the same manner as provided to standing committees pursuant to 2 V.S.A. Sec.
This proposal of amendment shall take effect upon ratification and adoption by the people of this state in accordance with the provisions of chapter 32 of Title 17, and shall apply to justices and judges in office at the time this proposal becomes a part of the constitution, and to justices and judges subsequently appointed.

At the October 21 Berlin state election, the PDS won 22.6% of the vote, only slightly less than the CDU (23.7%) and not far short of the SPD vote (29.7%).
Following the October 21 Berlin election, the SPD formed a coalition government in Berlin with the Greens and the FDP.
