Bernard Bolzano - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bernard Placidus Johann Nepomuk Bolzano (October 5, 1781 – December 18, 1848) was a Czech mathematician, theologian, philosopher and logician.
Bolzano entered the University of Prague in 1796 and studied mathematics, philosophy and physics.
For Bolzano, it was not enough that we merely have confirmation of natural or mathematical truths, but rather it was the proper role of the sciences (both pure and applied) to seek out justification in terms of the fundamental truths that may or may not appear to be obvious to our intuitions.

 I A Logical Framework
Much to his credit, Bolzano considered also this notion of consequence--he called it Ableitbarkeit--whereas today one is only interested in the logical holding of the consequence.
That is, one reduces the validity of the inference to the logical holding of a relation of consequence between the propositional contents of statements that serve as premises and conclusion, respectively, of the inference in question.
Bolzano also reduced the correctness of the statement that the rose is red is true to the rose's really being red.

Thus, while in Bolzano truth-bearers are propositions, truth-makers are the relationships (Verhältnisse) that a proposition enunciates, where a relationship is the belonging of a quality (which ‘(b)-ity’ refers to) to an object (which ‘a’ refers to) (16).
As to Bolzano, one of the reasons for which it seems that the same proposition is sometimes true and sometimes false in accordance with different times, places and objects, follows from the fact that some parts in it may change.
As regards Bolzano such a difference is radical, because a judgement has as matter or content a proposition-in-itself, which is a lektological object, always complex, referring to relationships between objects, of which at least one is a quality.

OUP: The Mathematical Works of Bernard Bolzano: Russ   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
Bernard Bolzano (1781-1848, Prague) was a remarkable thinker and reformer far ahead of his time in many areas, including philosophy, theology, ethics, politics, logic, and mathematics.
Bolzano identified an objective and semantic connection between truths, his so-called 'ground-consequence' relation that imposed a structure on mathematical theories and reflected careful conceptual analysis.
This was part of his highly original philosophy of mathematics that appears to be inseparable from his extraordinarily fruitful practical development of mathematics in ways that remain far from being properly understood, and may still be of relevance today.

This was done in Husserl's celebrated "Logical Investigations", in which he identified the Czech mathematician and logician, Bernard Bolzano, as "the greatest logician of all times".

As far as the domestic philosophical tradition is concerned, they referred back to Jan Amos Komenský, Bernard Bolzano and T.G. Masaryk; their methodology originated from a thorough study of the concrete by means of strict analysis after the manner of Husserl.
