A cycle of conferences on Dwork Theory   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
The primary goal of the conference is the investigation of the intrinsic geometric content of the arithmetic results and of the p-adic analytic methods due to Bernard Dwork (New York 5/27/1923 - Princeton 5/9/1998).
Dwork exerted a strong influence on contemporary algebraic geometers with his proof of rationality of the zeta function of an algebraic variety over a finite field, and the introduction of a completely new p-adic cohomology theory for hypersurfaces of characteristic p > 0.
Rather than a collection of isolated and ingenious methods enabling the proofs of some very deep theorems in arithmetic, Dwork's theory and results have great internal cohesion and are intimately and intrinsically related to the algebraic-geometric approach of Grothendieck and his school.

Once the claims against the defendants were resolved, Attorneys Dwork and Choi were successful in convincing the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to substantially reduce its lien for health care benefits paid for the child's care, thereby safeguarding a larger portion of the plaintiffs' settlement proceeds.
Accepting arguments made by attorneys Dwork and Scanlon, the Supreme Judicial Court changed the test to be applied by a medical malpractice tribunal so as to no longer require that a traditional doctor-patient relationship exist between the plaintiff and the defendant.
The plaintiff alleged that three nurses at a college infirmary, as well as the doctor on call, were negligent in their treatment of the plaintiff's decedent, a 21 year old college senior who died from an infection approximately twenty-four hours after her admission to the college infirmary.

As an example, let us consider the special case d 1 = Delta Delta Delta = d r = 1; d r 1 = Delta Delta Delta = dn = d p m D; where 1 r n is a fixed positive integer and D is some positive integer.
The infinite rank case was already considered and used in Theorem 2.4 of [12] to study the Newton polygon of Fredholm determinants arising from L functions of exponential sums.
More precisely, we prove a suitable extension of Dwork s conjecture in our more general setting of oe modules, see section 2 for precise definitions of the various notions used in this introduction.

Nick Katz (Nicholas M. Katz) is an American mathematician, working in the fields of algebraic geometry, particularly on p-adic methods, monodromy and moduli problems, and number theory.
He was a student of Bernard Dwork and then spent time in France, at IHES and Orsay, where he adapted methods of scheme theory and category theory to the theory of modular forms.
