The lamb-processing operation of Bernard Matthews New Zealand has been sold to a New Zealand syndicate including meat industry stalwart Craig Hickson, bringing his involvement with the Gisborne plant full-circle.
It would be business as usual for all three Bernard Matthews plants, including the slaughter and processing plants in Gisborne and Feilding, and a processing plant in Waipukurau, Mr Hickson said yesterday.

Bernard Matthews has a processing plant in Hungary near the outbreak area and regularly transports the meat to the UK plant, which is near its Suffolk plant.
Defra's deputy chief veterinary Fred Landeg said Bernard Matthews have voluntarily agreed to temporarily suspend the movement of poultry products between their outlets in the UK and Hungary until the investigation is complete.
In a previous statement Bernard Matthews said none of the affected poultry had entered the food chain, therefore making it unnecessary to recall or withdraw any products or to issue refunds.
