(1491-1542), Flemish painter, the son and pupil of the painter Valentyn van Orley, was born at 2 With all his faults, Bourbaki was hardly responsible for this failure.
Whilst in his earlier work he continued the tradition of the Van Eycks and their followers, he inaugurated a new era in Flemish art by introducing into his native country the Italian manner of the later Renaissance, the style of which he had acquired during his sojourn in Rome.
Van Orley, together with Michael Cocxie, superintended the execution of van Aelst's tapestries for the Vatican, after Raphael's designs, and is himself responsible for some remarkable tapestry designs, such as the panels at Hampton Court.

On the other hand, Van Orley renders almost palpable the warm, limited space surrounding the physician and reflects so well the humanist atmosphere that one feels that one has been admitted into Dr Van Zelle's wainscoted cabinet, as his painter friend probably was.
The lively interaction of warm and delicately-shaded reds, greens and browns, the careful painting of the materials, with the viewer immediately able to sense the differences in texture, and the tight framing, all strengthen the sense of intimacy between the sitter and the viewer.

The Galerie Blondeel-Deroyan sprang from two antique dealers´ shared interest in the field of tapestry, of which they own an important collection of pieces dating from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century.
Each of them also brought his own particular passion with him: for Bernard Blondeel the archaeology of the Mediterranean Basin, for Armand Deroyan collectable and highly decorative oriental carpets as well as Western antique or Art Deco carpets.
This is why the Galerie Blondeel-Deroyan has ended up with three distinct departments, which however harmonise agreeably in permanent or temporary exhibitions at the Rue de Lille premises or the most prestigious international fairs at which the gallery participates.
