BERNARDO PASQUINI (1637-1710), Italian musical composer, was born at Massa in Val di Nievole (Tuscany) on the 8th of December 1637.
During Alessandro Scarlatti's second sojourn in Rome (1703-1708), Pasquini and Corelli were frequently associated with him in musical performances, especially in connexion with the Arcadian Academy, of which all three were members.
Pasquini died at Rome on the 22nd of November 1710, and was buried in the church of St Lorenzo in Lucina.

I was introduced to the music of Bernardo Pasquini by my tutor, the late Sydney Smith, Darwin scholar, who also knew a little about Chinese porcelain and wine.
Willi Apel, in his "History of Keyboard Music to 1700", tells us that Pasquini was born in 1637, studied in Rome with Cesti from about 1650, and lived there until his death in 1710.
Pasquini's best music is to be found in his sets of variations.

Bernardo Pasquini was born in Massa Valdinievole in Pistoia, and moved to Rome in 1650, where he spent the rest of his life.
In his compositions Pasquini often links up with the style of Frescobaldi, in particular in those pieces which consist of a sequence of short contrasting sections, held together by the use of the same thematic material.
While Pasquini's earliest works, all included in the Berlin manuscript, are predominantly polyphonic, his later compositions are more homophonic or chordal, whereas in some he gives prominence to one particular part.
