B.J. "Bernie" Faloney was born in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, where he played high school football before attending the University of Maryland, College Park.
At season's end, Faloney finished fourth in the balloting for the 1953 Heisman Trophy and was drafted in the first round by the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League.
Faloney was the Eastern Conference's all-star quarterback on five occasions, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1964 and 1965.

When Bernie Faloney passed away on June 14 Canadians living with colorectal cancer lost one of their most powerful advocates.
One of his projects was to work with the members of the CCAC to help launch the Association last fall and establish it as a viable organization to represent the interests of people living with colorectal cancer.
The CCAC is deeply indebted to Bernie for his contributions.

Our two roommates were Bernie Faloney and Leo Coyne, freshman football players.
In my senior year, Bobby Gillelan got out of the Navy and he and I roomed together down the hall from Marty and across the hall from Lew Weidensaul and Paul Nestor, a couple of other football notables of that Maryland era.
Bernie went on to lead Maryland to its only national championship in 1953; Leo Coyne and Coach Tatum didn't see eye to eye and Leo got a boxing scholarship and proceeded to go to the NCAA semi-finals.
