Bernie Mac (born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough, October 5, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois) is a well known actor and comedian.
Bernie Mac was also one of the few African American comedic actors to be able to break out of the traditional "fl comedy" genre, having roles in the remake of Ocean's Eleven and becoming the new Bosley for the Charlie's Angels sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
In 1997, Mac continued with his stand-up comedy roots, touring the country as one of the Kings of Comedy, along with Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and D.L. Hughley.

Mac's preferred method of waking up Jordan each morning is to shoot him with a squirt gun because "he hate water worse than a cat." He awakens Bryana by grabbing her ankles and shaking her vigorously upside down.
By ditching this style, The Bernie Mac Show is free to explore comedy in ways that regular sitcoms cannot, as in "Now You Got It!" where we follow fluorescent green cold germs as they are passed from person to person onscreen throughout the episode.

The plot of the show is that Bernie Mac essentially plays himself, a very successful stand-up comedian who uses his humor and charisma to take himself out of the tough urban streets of Chicago and is now living the American dream in his big mansion in the hills of Los Angeles.
Bernie has a very hilarious stand-up bit about having to take care of his sister’s kids that was the inspiration for the series.
When Mac utters his patented line “I’m gonna kill them kids,” you really feel his frustration as he tries to come to terms with the fact that his life will never be the same now that he is their legal guardian.

Bernie Mac's whole shtick has been to center episodes around the abhorrent parenting philosophies he waxed philosophical about in a TV Guide interview a few years ago (The basic premise: If children do anything at all to get under your skin, threaten to hit them with a belt).
In the interview, Mac talked about how he used to stand in the outfield of his little league games "afraid to go home" because of the beatings that often awaited him at the hands of his grandfather.
Some viewers praise Bernie Mac's alleged "tough love" (a PC term if ever there was one) approach, but psychological studies have proved conclusively that prisons all across the nation are filled with the results of the same parenting style that Mac would have us believe is acceptable.
