  Bernoullis Principle
Bernoulli's principle thus says that a rise (fall) in pressure in a flowing fluid must always be accompanied by a decrease (increase) in the speed, and conversely, if an increase (decrease) in, the speed of the fluid results in a decrease (increase) in the pressure.
Bernouilli's principle also tells us why windows tend to explode, rather than implode in hurricanes: the very high speed of the air just outside the window causes the pressure just outside to be much less than the pressure inside, where the air is still.
Another example of Bernoulli's principle at work is in the lift of aircraft wings and the motion of ``curve balls'' in baseball.

  Bernoullis theory of lift
The problem is that the physical principles that lie at the foundation of flight are counterintuitive; indeed, the mechanics of flight were ultimately revealed after some fancy manipulation of the physics and mathematics created by Sir Isaac Newton in the late 1600s.

Bernoulli's Principle and Storms: Why a Tornado or Hurricane Can Lift the Roof off a House
Bernoulli's principle, which results from conservation of energy, relates the elevation, pressure, and speed of a fluid (liquid or gas).
Bernoulli's principle gives the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the roof, rather than the force directly.
Bernoulli's equation tells us the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the roof is one half the air density multiplied by the wind speed squared.

The phenomenon described by Bernoulli's principle has many practical applications; it is employed in the carburetor and the atomizer, in which air is the moving fluid, and in the aspirator, in which water is the moving fluid.
Bernoulli's principle can be explained in terms of the law of conservation of energy (see conservation laws, in physics).
Lift is generally explained by Bernoullis principle, which states that the pressure of a moving gas...pressure is exerted in the upward direction.

Fluid Dynamics | World of Physics
Apart from the more familiar cases, the principles of fluid dynamics can be used to understand an almost unimaginable variety of phenomena such as the flow of blood in blood vessels, the flight of geese in V-formation, and the behavior of underwater plants and animals.
Bernoulli's principle for an ideal fluid essentially says that the total amount of energy in a laminar flow is always the same.
Bernoulli's principle, however, remains surprisingly relevant in a variety of situations and is probably the single most important principle in fluid dynamics.

Bernoulli's principle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This principle is a simplification of Bernoulli's equation which states that the sum of all forms of energy in a fluid flowing along an enclosed path (a streamline) is the same at any two points in that path.
Bernoulli's principle can be used to analyze the venturi effect that is used in carburetors and elsewhere.
The Bernoulli equation for incompressible fluids can be derived by integrating the Euler equations, or applying the law of conservation of energy in two sections along a streamline, ignoring viscosity, compressibility, and thermal effects.

RC Groups - Does a symmetrical airfoil produce any lift?
Jul 22, 2004, 06:32 PM The issue of different pressure (Bernoullis principle) being the main cause for lift on airfoils is an old but persistant myth.
Bernoulli is alive and well in fluid dynamics: that a fluid traveling in a system at a higher velocity will have a lower pressure than a fluid traveling at a lower velocity in the same system.
Think of it like this, one of the "demonstrations" of Bernoullis principle as used in schools is to take a leaf of paper, and blow on the upper surface.

Question - Does a symmetrical airfoil produce any lift? - RC Groups
The issue of different pressure (Bernoullis principle) being the main cause for lift on airfoils is an old but persistant myth.
Bernoullis principle IS correct, but it can only explain a TINY amount of the lift we need to make an airplane fly, and it doesn´t explain ANY of the lift created by a symmetrical airfloil or a flatplate airfoil.
I just can´t belive that the myth of Bernoullis principle as the major contributor to lift is so hard to "kill".

When, in 1725, the younger Bernoullis went to Russia, on the invitation of the empress, they procured a place there for Euler, which in 1733 he exchanged for the chair of mathematics, then vacated by Daniel Bernoulli.
John Bernoulli represented the number by c; Euler in 1734 denoted by p, and in a letter of 1736 (in which he enunciated the theorem that the sum of the squares of the reciprocals of the natural numbers is
The classic problems on isoperimetrical curves, the brachistochrone in a resisting medium, and the theory of geodesics (all of which had been suggested by his master, John Bernoulli) had engaged Euler's attention at an early date; and in solving them he was led to the calculus of variations.

That means that by the time the two airflows are re-united behind the wing the air going over the top has travelled faster because it has had to go further.
Using Bernoullis principle we can expect the wing to feel a higher pressure from underneath than on top, so on balance, the wing experiences an up-ward force from the air which counteracts the gravitational force.

This principle states that when a gas or liquid is in motion, its pressure is reduced and the faster the motion, the more the reduction in pressure.
The wings are made so that air flowing across their upper surfaces at a faster rate than it rushes past the lower surfaces and due to Bernoulli's principle this lowers the pressure more above the wings than below, producing the lifting force that keeps the airplane flying.
