Under Andronicus II (1283-1328) Beroea was made a metropolis.
Besides this Beroea, there was in Thracia a Beroe, or Augusta Trajana (Hierocles, 635), whither Pope Liberius (355-358) was exiled (Sozomen, IV, 11).
Beroea is also an ancient name of Aleppo.

 Acacius
We next hear of Acacius in Rome, apparently as a deputy on the part of Meletius and the Fathers of the Antiochene Synod, when the questions connected with the heresy of Apollinaris came up for discussion before Pope Damasus.
Indeed, he was one of the notorious "four" whom the Saint particularly named as men at whose hands he could not expect to obtain common justice.
In every one of the various synods convened for the Saint's undoing, the restless old man of Beroea took a leading and almost acrimonious part, and even made a laborious, but happily futile, effort to win over Pope Innocent to his uncharitable view.

As Beroea we hear of the place in Seleucid wars and dissensions.
There Heracleon, the court favorite and murderer of Antiochus Grypus, was born and made himself a principality (96 B.C.); and there the son of the latter king besieged his brother Philip in the last struggle for the heritage of Seleucus.
Overwhelmed by the Saracen flood in A.D. 638, Beroea disappears, and as Moslem society settles down Halep emerges again as the great gathering-place of caravans passing from Asia Minor and Syria to Mesopotamia, Bagdad and the Persian and Indian kingdoms.

 Vergina/Beroea
On the way to Beroea, where Paul fled when he left Thessalonica, the guide surprised us with a stop at Vergina to see the bones of Philip and other members of his royal family.
So, in 336, at the age of 20, Alexander, specially educated by his father for empire, was crowned King of Macedonia to fulfill Philip's dream of conquest of Persia and the unification of the known world into a single Hellenistic empire.
About the only reason to go to Beroea (now called Varia) is because the Book of Acts says that Paul went there after fleeing Thessalonica (Acts 17:10).
