Berowra Waters is an essentially rural and very attractive waterfront location in the northern hinterland of Sydney's metropolitan area, due west of Palm Beach and west of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.
It sits athwart Berowra Creek (an anabranch of the Hawkesbury River which extends southwards from the main river) and is bisected by Berowra Waters Road (which runs off the Princes Highway) and a vehicular ferry.
The only attraction on the Berowra side of Berowra Creek is the famous Great North Walk which, if you feel like a pleasant stroll, runs beside the creek heading both upstream and downstream from the ferry.

This ride is not that long (about 45 km Hornsby to Hornsby) but has two solid climbs and some steep downhills, with a ferry crossing at Berowra Waters, a branch of the Hawkesbury.
After a break here the ferry is close by and a short trip across Berowra Waters gets you to the foot of the 4 km climb out up to Berowra.
At the top is a place where many a bike rider has stopped for a rest, under some pine trees.

The fire is doing things that are very hard for the fire crews to anticipate, the flare-ups happening here, there and everywhere.
The fire was burning up the side of a valley, getting very close to homes, in fact the fires were burning right beside structures at the bottom of the valley which, if prompt action hasn't been taken, they would have gone up by now I fear.

I toproped this route in the late eighties with a couple of mates - we did most of the moves but never linked it and might even have drilled a hole or two for bolts before abandoning it (and got a bit over-excited with painting initials...).
Certainly, it's not the best thing at Berowra - a gap-filler if ever there was one.
