 Berri Means Delicious Food and Gorgeous Scenery
On a recent trip to South Australia, I had a chance to visit the places where the fabulous Australian food is grown and produced.
Berri was originally part of the Cobdogla Station and served as a mooring place for paddlesteamers during the early days of European occupation.
Berri has a variety of good accommodation, from four and a half star to budget including bed and breakfast properties, an excellent caravan park close to the river, a backpacker hostel, and a motel on the golf course.

Berri Fruit Juices are manufacturers of Daily Juice and the Gardener label of condiments.

South Australia's Riverland region doesn't offer as many attractions as the area around the Murray across the border in Victoria, but it is a popular spot for many travellers who come here to pick up fruit picking work.
The main crops here are grapes and oranges and the town is home to a large fruit juice factory and Australia's largest winery, which produces the cheap cask wine that is so popular with many backpackers.
As Berri is on the Sturt Highway, which runs between Adelaide and Sydney, McCafferty's/Greyhound also operate daily coaches that stop here (but they also run an Adelaide-Sydney service via Broken Hill, which doesn't stop in Berri).

The Australian Workers Union says Berri Limited has offered redundancy packages to between 20 and 25 workers at its plant in the Riverland.
More than 100 citrus jobs have already been lost from South Australia this year, due in part to a severe shortage of juicing oranges.

Located opposite the Berri Club, a couple of kilometres outside the town centre.
It is an old house with loads of character and the hostel is set on a large block of land with plenty of room for a large array of facilities that include a sauna, beach volleyball court, tennis court, soccer pitch, swimming pool and several tree houses to chill out in.
We were in Oz 1 week (4 of us who met in Berri in 96) but chose 2 of those days to stay back in the backpackers!!
