Topic: Bersaglieri

  Avalanche Press
The Bersaglieri battalions at first served as light infantry components of brigades and divisions, but Army doctrine later in the century called for them to be held back as corps-level reserves.
Bersaglieri had the 8mm Breda M1937, a modern weapon but hampered by being clip- instead of belt-fed. The Breda left no “brass” lying around, as the spent cartridges were re-inserted in the clip as they were fired.
Bersaglieri fought the French and the Greeks in 1940, but the first Bersaglieri to see combat in North Africa, the 10th Bersaglieri Regiment, crossed to Libya in early 1941 and headed for the front.

The Italian Bersaglieri and a little history | BonitaNews.com
Not long ago, I attended a charity concert in the theatre in Cittá di Castello, Italy, a small charming city situated in the Valley of the Tiber; the river that the Italians quaintly call il Tevere; which starts in the hills a few kilometers north of Castello, and flows to Rome and the sea.
The principle attraction at the concert, which we attended, was the brass section, the “Fanfare”, of Italy’s most famous Regiment, the Bersaglieri, those chaps who go everwhere at double speed and wear huge plumes of cock’s feathers in their hats.
All the guests were greeted with a smile and a “bienvenuto”, a welcome, the ladies all received a long stemmed red rose, and the gentlemen a packet of postcards showing the evolution of the Bersaglieri uniforms.
