Bert Millichip - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sir Frederick Albert (Bert) Millichip (August 5, 1914 - December 18, 2002) was an English association footballer best known for his sometimes controversial contributions to the administration of the game.
Under Millichip's chairmanship, the club re-established itself in the First Division and recruited talented and energetic manager Ron Atkinson, building a team that was among the most exciting in English football circa 1980.
In 1981, Millichip was elected chairman of The Football Association at the start of a period during which the English game was to be rocked by a succession of crises including the Heysel Stadium disaster, the Hillsborough disaster, growing problems of hooliganism, the national team's repeated international failure and the founding of the Premier League.

Independent, The (London): Obituary: Sir Bert Millichip - Hardworking FA Chairman
TO MANY in football, Bert Millichip was Committee Man incarnate: a denizen of the sport's dimly lit corridors of power, a behind-the- scenes operator and master of the arcane inner workings of the Football Association.
Millichip was recently dragged unwillingly into the public glare when he was unfairly handed a large portion of the blame for the fiasco of England's 2006 World Cup bid.
Millichip emerged as a key figure at the FA's London headquarters in Lancaster Gate, and in 1981 he began a 15-year spell as chairman.

 Football | Sir Bert Millichip
Sir Bert Millichip, who has died aged 88, was honest, loved football and was generally genial.
Officials of Uefa, the European body, in which Millichip headed the referees' committee, insisted that he had, but there were no minutes to prove it.
All of which begged the fundamental question of the Football Association's role, which was to hold the ring, rather than to throw in its lot with the richest clubs, concerned with pursuing their own commercial interests.

Then, when this failed to pass scrutiny, it falsely claimed the F.A. chairman at the time of the agreement, the venerable Sir Bert Millichip, who had long and faithfully served English football, had been senile, fell asleep during the crucial meeting and generally didn't know what he was doing anyway.
