Carl Friedrich Benz was a German automobile engineer, born: November 25 1844, Muehlburg (now part of Karlsruhe), Baden, Germany, died: April 4 1929, Ladenburg upon Neckar, Germany.
He married Bertha Ringer in 1872 (then Berta Benz) and they had five children during their life together.
In 1903 Benz retired from Benz & Co., but he remained a member of the supervisory board until his death.

Wife of Carl Benz, she was the first person to drive an automobile over more than a very short distance.
She drove with her 14 and 15 year old sons the newly constructed automobile August 5, 1888 from Mannheim to Pforzheim over a distance of 106 km.
The drive was helpful for Carl Benz, her husband, as he was able to introduce several improvements after hearing everything that had happened along the way.
