Berwick Bassett is just a few minutes north of the well known Avebury, about which the National Trust says "One of the most important megalithic monuments in Europe is spread over a vast area at Avebury, much of it under Trust protection.
The great stone circle, encompassing part of the village of Avebury, is enclosed by a ditch and external bank and approached by an avenue of stones." The church lies down a tiny lane which leads on further only to a private farm road.
Berwick Bassett is the first place I have come across which is described as a hamlet, so small is it.
