  College of Music - Loyola University New Orleans
Loyola's three performing ensembles are preparing for a busy spring performance schedule; all performances are open to the public, and admission is free.
The Loyola Chorale, whose spring concert is set for May 1, performed for the Louisiana chapter of the American Choral Directors Association in October, at the fall 2000 Vocal Conference in Baton Rouge.
The Loyola Choirs were nominated for the "Best Choral Performance" award at the 2000 Tribute to the Classical Arts Awards for their presentation of Christmas at Loyola; this was the second year the choirs were nominated for that honor.

Spano won the best choral performance award with Norman MacKenzie, ASO director of choruses, for the orchestra's recording of Hector Berlioz's Requiem, Op.
Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra also won a Grammy for best engineered album for their Telarc recording of Jennifer Higdon's City Scape and Concerto for Orchestra, which was also nominated in three other categories: best classical album, best orchestral performance, and best classical contemporary composition.
Spano also has to move aside a few Grammy awards on his bookshelf; in 2003 he and the ASO swept the three categories for which they were nominated (best classical album, best choral performance, and best engineered classical album) with their Telarc recording of Ralph Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony.

 Monteverdi Choir (Choir) - Short History
The Monteverdi Choir was founded at Cambridge in March 1964 by John Eliot Gardiner, then an undergraduate, for a performance of the Monteverdi Vespers (1610) in King's College Chapel, with the aim of introducing the colours and passion of Italian music to audiences reared on the English choral tradition.
As an opera chorus, the Monteverdi Choir has performed in the theatres of La Scala, Milan; Zurich, Paris, Lyons and Strasbourg, drawing new audiences to the operas of Rameau and Gluck, the masques of Purcell and to the dramatic oratorios of Händel.
Two of Haydn's late masses, namely the Nelson and Theresien Masses were performed at the Barbican Centre and at European venues and were recorded for DG Archiv by the Monteverdi Choir under John Eliot Gardiner in December 1997.

 The Conservatory Choir
Most recently, the Choir won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance for its recording of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem which it recorded with the Washington Chorus and National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert Shafer.
The group performed the world premiere of Jacob Druckman's Vox Humana with Mstislav Rostropovich and the the National Symphony in a performance that was broadcast nationally.
It has performed with the 20th Century Consort at the Hirshhorn Museum as well as with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, and several times in the distinguished concert series at the National Gallery of Art.

The choir has performed at many state and regional conventions and most recently was invited to perform at the 2001 National American Choral Directors Association Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
Their performance of William Walton's Belshazzar's Feast and Bernstein's Chichester Psalms with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Bramwell Tovey, was cited as the "Best Choral Performance of the Year" by the Winnipeg Free Press.
She regularly prepares choirs for the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, including recent performances of Mendelssohn's "Elijah," Vaughn William's "Sea Symphony," and Verdi's "Requiem." She has been the artistic director for the Fargo-Moorhead Chamber Chorale since 1996 and is musical director of the NDSU Baroque Festival, now in its' third year.
