  hard rock
Hard rock is a form of rock and roll music that finds its closest roots in early 1960s garage rock.
Hard Rock is usually, but not always written with major key song construction, as opposed to heavy metal, which is often minor key oriented.
Punk rock, Gothic rock, Industrial music, funk, and fusion also claim these roots, but branch off at different points, eliminating elements that are considered unnecessary, and adding elements to typify their genre.

THE GRAMMY MODEL: Al Gore in 2004? Hey, it worked for Metallica...
The famously uncool Grammys had added a long-overdue Best Hard Rock/Metal category, and uncompromising headbangers Metallica (fronted by guitarist James Hetfield) were invited to perform their intense epic "One" at the glitzy ceremony...Soon after the band's thundering performance, the Grammy went to washed-up proggers Jethro Tull, solidifying metal's status as rock's most undeservedly disrespected genre.
Metallica took to the stage to perform "One", inspired by "Johnny Got His Gun," a film about a war veteran, almost killed in World War I, who is left with no limbs or senses, and in a vegetative state, but is still capable of thought and uncertainty -- and suffering.
Denied their rightful victory in 1988, Metallica won in 1989 -- and for the very song they performed on the Grammys that fateful night.

 Jethro Tull Album Reviews
Others know the band for a slew of popular “classic rock” radio tracks in the ‘70s, or for receiving one of the most ludicrous Grammy Awards ever (Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance, 1988).
A dreaded "prog rock concept album" it may be, but 30 years later Aqualung remains a surprisingly listenable and enjoyable experience.
Fact is, regardless of how creative this album is - and it is awfully creative and enjoyable for the most part - it's hard not to notice that most of the ideas presented on the first song are merely repeated on the second song, albeit with slight alterations in most cases.
