 Species Diversity and Richness
Species Diversity is a program to aid in biodiversity studies, offering a wide range of alpha and beta diversity related methods, graphical data representation, abundance distributions, and generation of simulated data.
The statistical methods that can be applied are grouped into the following eight topics: alpha diversity, diversity ordering, species richness, abundance, distributions, data simulation, beta diversity and special scores.
It offers a wide range of alpha and beta diversity related methods, graphical data representation, abundance distributions, and will even generate simulated data.

The women of Pi Beta Phi take great pride in the rich and varied history of our members.
Our diversity strengthens us, and in diversity we grow, just as one sister's weakness may be another Pi Phi's strength.
In fact, part of being a member of our organization entails a comfort in having our own individual goals, dreams, and interests; but we must also learn to recognize and appreciate our common bond as Pi Phi sisters.

Biodiversity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beta diversity is species diversity between ecosystems; this involves comparing the number of taxa that are unique to each of the ecosystems.
For geneticists, biodiversity is the diversity of genes and organisms.
Gamma diversity is a measure of the overall diversity for different ecosystems within a region.

 Thalassemia
The beta thalassemia syndromes are much more diverse than the alpha thalassemia syndromes due to diversity of the mutations that produce the defects in the beta globin gene.
Beta- thalassemia is caused by a mutation in the gene responsible for beta-globin.It results in an excess of alpha globins, which leads to the formation of alpha globin tetramers that accumulate in the erythroblast (Immature red blood cell).
Children who have untreated thalassemia generally die in the first decade of life from anemia and septicemia, and may suffer from pathologic fractures, when palliative transfasions are introduced, children live into their late teens, but eventually succumb to heart failure if Iron over load is not treated.

Tolerance.org: Beta Letter Makes Fraternity's Viewpoint Clear
The Betas regret having offended anyone and have expressed their apology for the conduct publicly, have signed the Birmingham Pledge, engaged in community service with a focus on disadvantaged urban youth, hired a diversity advisor and taken other measures to make certain they avoid any offensive behavior in the future.
As odd as it may seem, the Betas were being inclusive in their view of persons or things one might find in the Auburn community when they portrayed the African-American fraternity members along with the members of other white fraternities.
Unfortunately, the Betas have been swept into that group of fraternities whose conduct was clearly racist -- those wearing Klan robes or depicting lynching and other atrocious and unacceptable behavior.

 diversity
In the temperate regions, the web tends to have high variation over space yet low density of variation of species within the same area, a condition called beta diversity by ecologists; alpha diversity consists of high-density variation within the same area and little change over space, a condition typical of tropical forests.
Variation from region to region of a temperate forest may be a consequence of diverse historical conditions, such as fire, insect infestations, or other natural changes, together with soil and altitude conditions.

Actinobacteria and the Beta and Gammaproteobacteria constituted the majority of diversity seen at the population level, while Alphaproteobacteria and Bacteroides were just as diverse at the genus level.
These data suggest that Actinobacteria populations are temporally stable, while Proteobacteria and Bacteroides play a major role in the within- and between-year shifts in composition and diversity seen at all phylogenetic levels in a humic lake.
In contrast, the Proteobacteria and Bacteroides populations were far more dynamic, generally showing vast community composition and diversity changes during entry into, and recovery from, low diversity periods.
