Beth or Bet is the second letter of the (The extinct language of an ancient Semitic people who dominated trade in the ancient world) Phoenician and (A Semitic alphabet used since the 5th century BC for writing the Hebrew language (and later for writing Yiddish and Ladino)) Hebrew alphabets.
The Phoenician letter gave rise to the (A native or inhabitant of Greece) Greek (Beets) Beta, (Any dialect of the language of ancient Rome) Latin (The 2nd letter of the Roman alphabet) B, and the Cyrillic equivalent.

This is evident in the letter 'beth' which appears for nineteen times in the inscription.
There are no letters in the beginning of a line forming part of a word which starts in the end of the preceding line (no broken words).

where the instructions are given to build the Mt. Ebal altar, we find the same verbal construction, with a beth.
By contrast, in Deuteronomy 11:29, where the instructions for pronouncing the curses are given, we are told that they are to be pronounced al Mt. Ebal, that is, on Mt. Ebal.
