Bethesda is the childhood home of shipman the lead singer of Super Furry Animals who grew up in the area known as Rachub / Llanllechid.

We plan to leave Bethesda by 1730 hrs, pick up the 'B' walkers at Llanfairfechan at 1745 hrs and be back in Formby by 1945 hrs.
The walk starts near Tal-y-Bont with a stiff climb on a pleasant country lane to reach the North Wales Path after which it is pleasant undulating walking, overlooking the coast.
We then leave the North Wales Path with a final ascent to continue the walk across fields, descending to the small seaside resort of Llanfairfechan where there are facilities, and from where we will be collected by the coaches.

 Chapels and Churches
When the Rev J T Davies became minister of both Gosen and Bethesda in 1879, he brought together some of the most influential and prominent Independents of Pontardawe, and formed a committee of 12 who held meetings at the Three Compasses and later at the Dynevor Arms.
A larger chapel was built in 1892, ten years later the Rev D Gower Richards was inducted and in his time the old chapel was replaced by a new vestry, built in 1912 for £900.
A larger chapel was built and opened in 1893 in Curtis Row, a stone at the front of the chapel commemorates the tercentenary of the martyrdom of John Penry (the famous Welsh Puritan).

"I was staying in Bethesda, North Wales, when the Great War started in August, 1914, and well-remember my father going back to our home in Liverpool, leaving me there in the care of my "Uncle" Walter and "Auntie", who were always so kind to me. They seemed to look on my father as a brother.
I well-remember he sailed that late afternoon from Bangor on the "St. Elvies" - one of the North Wales Steamers - as the trains were reserved for men going to join the Army and Navy.
He had to leave school in Bethesda at the age of 9 and go to work in the Penrhyn Slate Quarries.

Coming together as part of an insular local scene in the mid-1980s (in this case, a scene consisting entirely of Welsh-speaking bands), they explored a melodic sensibility outside the new wave and pop metal mainstream of the time.
Despite a rather limited profile (they only toured outside of Wales twice), they released four full-lengths, as well as numerous singles and compilation tracks.
