Dr. Louis Beto owned the house just west of the existing library and when it was learned he would be willing to sell it, this was the possibility pursued.
Amazing things happened during the next four years as a package of public and private funds was put together to finance what turned out to be a library expansion costing about $1,250,000.
Together with the Library Building Committee, architects participated in the decision to eliminate the Beto Building and to fasten the expansion to the existing library.

Tom played with Milton Larkin and his band at the Aragon Ballroom in Houston in 1936.
During the last four years of the the Beto Villa Orquesta from 1957 to 1960, son-in-law Wally Armendariz played saxophone and helped Beto with the band.
Then joined Paulino Bernal Orquestra and helped record their hit "Mi Unico Camino".
