		When she began working on the project, Thomas said, she was determined to cast "nobodies" so the audience wouldn't have to shake an image that came with a name actor in order to accept them as a Brady.
		Thomas, whose background includes a stint with Bill Murray and John Candy in the Chicago comedy theater Second City, acting in "Hill Street Blues" and an Emmy for directing an episode of HBO's "Dream On," said she "didn't want to do a movie about a TV show" until she saw how satirical the script was.
		Thomas said she was also surprized with the amount of freedom she was given in creating "The Brady Bunch Movie." She wanted to include gay characters in the story, as the original script had done.

		His mother, Lona Sizemore, died in 1923 when Lige was 13 years old and by 1926 he and his dad, Lewis "Bud" Thomas, had moved to Newport, KY. It was there that Lige met and married my mother, Mickey, in 1946.

		Thomas has surrounded Bullock with a sharp ensemble, and the addition of singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III (as a kind of Greek chorus crooner) is sublimely inspired.
		Certainly no surprises here--the warring sisters will reconcile, and at least one rehabber will fail to recover--but there's ample pleasure to be found in Bullock's finely tuned performance, and in Thomas's inclusion of flashbacks and tangents that add depth and laughter in just the right dosage.

		Sort of a 007 spoof who has all the best spy toys and gets all the women while Alex whines, "My stuff looks like you got if from Radio Shack in 1972." Actually, Betty also mentioned Steven Seagal as her first choice for that role; hence, Gary Cole's ponytail.
		Perhaps the film's funniest moments (they certainly had our audience in stitches) allowed Eddie and Owen to do what they do best, play together and just be funny.
