Immersion of ashes, bones and splinters of the dead bodies after cremation, stale flowers from the temples and unusable material of religious activities on the bank of the Betwa are some of the causes that are contaminating the water of the river Betwa.
The pollution in Betwa is also increasing due to bathing of cattle into it, cleaning of the vehicles and cereals and mixing of sewage water.
In addition to it Betwa receives every year more than a million gallons of contaminated water and other industrial effluent which is an alarming factor that needs constant attention and adoption of suitable measures to prevent the holy river Betwa.
