Beverlee McKinsey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beverlee McKinsey (born August 9, 1940 in McAlester, Oklahoma) is an American actress.
McKinsey's exit from Guiding Light proved to be quite dramatic in its own right: leaving on a planned six-week vacation, McKinsey informed Procter and Gamble that she did not intend to return to the show.
Her son, Scott McKinsey, is a director on the soap opera General Hospital (on which she briefly appeared in 1994).

Irises - The Unofficial Beverlee McKinsey and Carmen Duncan Homepage
I wasn't alive to see Beverlee on Another World and I was too young to see her on Texas, but some of my fondest (and oldest) soap opera memories are of Beverlee's Alex on Guiding Light.
It turned out, Carmen Duncan could, if not replace Beverlee - for that implies one or both actresses were so one-note that they could be interchangeable - at least create her own vision of the character that was marvelous in its own right.
Beverlee has retired from acting, and Carmen has done some film and television work in her native Australia which I have yet to have the chance to see on American television.

The drama produced by Mac and Rachel's marriage and Mac's daughter's insane jealousy (Mac's daughter, Iris, was portrayed at this time by Beverlee McKinsey) fueled the storylines for most of the late 1970s.
Beverlee McKinsey got her own spinoff series, Texas, in 1980, and to accommodate her new series, Another World went back to 60 minutes, and was moved from the three o'clock hour to two o'clock.
Because of the audience erosion, the move to 90-minute installments is generally regarded as a failure.

Irises - The Beverlee McKinsey Interview - TV Guide - August 5, 1992
It was a maddening system, to be sure, but within three minutes of my leaving a message, she dialed me back and said -- in that gloriously sexy voice that drips equal parts honey and cyanide -- "Well, what the hell took you so long?" And she proceeded to give me her only farewell interview.
McKinsey: I don't know that I don't want to be in California, but I certainly don't have any plans.
If they had said, 'Well, [McKinsey's favorite head writer] Nancy Curlee is coming back and that'll put Alexandra back to where she used to be,' that would have been wonderful but that wouldn't have fixed it.

Iris (Beverlee McKinsey) was featured on the cover of Soap Opera Digest the week of September 30, 1980, but not paired with her onscreen love, Alex.
Beverlee McKinsey was born and raised in Oklahoma.
Beverlee told Soap Opera Digest in 1980 that the transition from Another World to Texas wasn't too traumatic: "I am still in the same buldiing, still in the same dressing room, my old friends are just down the hall, and I'm still the same character," she said.

Davis first became popular in daytime television, playing Beverlee McKinsey's love interest, Eliot Carrington, for two years on the soap opera Texas in the early 1980s.
The album was intended to deliver the energy and emotion of Davis’ live show in recorded form, and it immediately garnered rave reviews from various publications, and captured the attention of country dance fans across the country (topping the country dance charts).

Beverlee McKinsey is one of the most accomplished, popular, and critically acclaimed actresses ever to grace daytime drama.
The writing was horrible and except for Beverlee McKinsey and a few others females, the large contingent of actresses were the worst assembled cast up to that time in daytime tv.
McKinsey left the sinking ship after one year, and the show was given a new logo, them, and opening..."Texas, the new generation!", which brought about a focus on younger characters.

CHARGED WITH: GUIDING LIGHT suffered one of its biggest blows ever in August 1992 when Beverlee McKinsey, on the last day before her scheduled annual eight-week vacation, announced she was quitting the show after almost a decade.
McKinsey rarely grants interviews — "Like, never," she cracks, her voice raspy and twangy as ever — so one would expect her to be cagey.
McKinsey: Well, it probably was during the time I was performing, and everything else was a real drag (laughs).

Texas (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
She and her goofy maid Vivien Gorrow (Gretchen Oehler) moved away from Bay City to live a new life in Houston, Texas and Iris became involved with first love Alex Wheeler.
Critics complained that Iris (who was known on Another World as being a villainess and a bitch) had become too tame, and that other roles were poorly cast or suffered from paper-thin writing (Texas hired General Hospital star Kin Shriner at great expense, only to give him almost nothing to do until he finally left).
After a year, however, McKinsey left the show and the secondary characters seen in the first year were given more story.

Another two million viewers defected, partly due to McKinsey's departure, partly due to the new time change, and partly due to new characters "taking over" the show (see next paragraph).
In addition to the characters introduced solely to Another World who did not catch on, Another World viewers also saw characters for fleeting moments who were going to be moved to Texas in the long-term anyway.
The viewers who defected from Another World either followed McKinsey to Texas, or tuned out entirely due to confusion, as their favorite characters were being showcased less to make room for the short-term Texas storyline.

Beverly McKinsey, who was a standout on AW as Iris during the 1970s, was made the lead player in the new series.
The main title begins with a series of aerial shots of the city of Houston and its environs: the downtown skyscrapers, the sprawling ranches, the oil refineries, etc. Then there would be a series of video clips of all the main cast members, all taken from actual episodes of the show.
The last clip, of Beverly McKinsey as Iris, would dissolve to the Lone Star of the Texas flag.

The drama that surrounded this May-December romance, usually fueled by jealousy from Mac's daughter Iris (Beverlee McKinsey, then Carmen Duncan), made Another World a very popular soap in the late 1970s and set the stage for more drama into the 1980s.
In 1989, Douglass Watson (and his character) died, and Wyndham was left without a partner on the show.
